Mark Theaker – Q&A

Name age and where do you live?

Mark Theaker, the Bad Lands (Turbo Truro Cornwall)

How long have you been riding?

What today? 2 hours 33 minutes and 10 seconds! Oh what in life? Since I was 7 – that’s about 25 years now. Damn I’m old! Well I’m 22 years young! And the moon is made from cheese!!!

What type of riding do you like and which do you get to do most often?

Skate parks really; quarter pipes/hips/flat banks and some dirty big vert ramps and some street. Love rails! I ride Mount Hawke, Newquay and so on…..

Favourite thing about BMX?

Learning process and creativity aspect of riding. The way we make shapes and link our tricks around a park. The endless thought process of “What if?” The travel and experience you encounter, and the people you meet and befriend are what I love about BMX.

Who do you ride with on a regular basis?

A lot by myself. Sometimes Pasty who is a good friend or just locals.

Favourite trick(s)?

The Seagull which looks like a 540 flair/flat spin 540 (well no-one can make up their minds about it yet), flip whips when I’m feeling it, whips, whips and more whips and some no-hander’s and turndowns.

Worst tricks?

Bar-spins; every time I spin them I always look like I’m taking a poop! Ha! Ha! Ha! It’s all about the poo face!

Any other interests outside of BMX?

I’m taking a photography degree. This is my third degree now – still can’t spell to save my own life but I just love learning. I’m a trustee of Mount Hawke skate park youth group. I’m an active member of that committee striving to develop the skate park for the little Grom’s in Cornwall. I also surf most weekends and now I’m hitting up some big waves – really stoked about this, snowboarding most season with shoe lace Seb! Ha! Ha! Ha! Say no more! Made the year mate.

Anything else?

BMX has been a big part of my life for 25 years now I have experienced so many good times and shared some bad ones to boot, but the one I will always take with me is that BMX teaches you life skills which I’ve never really seen anywhere else and is to say there’s only one way and that’s to SEND IT simple but true. The next thing I will say as a BMX’er no matter where you are in the world you’re never really alone because the global community of BMX whatever town or city you’re in, there will be a friend just riding at his local park/street spot and the only invitation you need is your BMX – “food for thought”

Thank you I would like to thank Rob and Andy. It’s been around 12 years now since they have been helping me throughout my BMX journey. It’s been fun, so many stories (should I mention the Lada car? Ha! Ha!) So once again thank you guys, you are the best. To all my friends out there thanks for all the laughs and giggles let the good times roll! much love, Tweaker x
